The tree has a crooked trunk and spreading branches. The leaves are simple, nearly stalkless and closely set along slender branchlets. Amla is  a small to medium sized tree which is well known for its medicinal fruit having the same name as that of a tree. Amla is highly found in Indian home remedy recipes. About Indian Gooseberry Amla leaves are someimes mistaken for leaflets of pinnate leaves. The flowers of amla tree are small and greenish-yellow or pinkish in color. The flowers consists of six segments, but no real petals. The fruit is almost spherical, light greenish-yellow, quite smooth and hard on appearance, with 6 vertical  furrows. Ripening in autumn, the berries are harvested by hand after climbing to upper branches bearing the fruits.
